But fear no more, we have gathered a complete list of things to get you prepared for your next trip and we’ll tell everything you should know so read on. Awesome snowboard holiday in the mountains awaits!
Planning the holiday and picking the perfect resort
Planning the vacation and picking the perfect resort for your needs takes some time and thorough research. You should think about who you want to take with you, what is your/their skill level, are all of them snowboarders, are you more into a relaxed small town vibe or looking for a vivid and pumping after-ski scene. Also when deciding on a resort, it’s important to check if the resort is snowboarder friendly. Some resorts have long and nearly flat transfers between pistes and different areas which are easy peasy for skiers but require snowboarders to undo the back foot and to skate around quite a bit. The next thing to think about is the accommodation. How would an own chalet with a fireplace and ski-in-ski-out option sound? Dreamy if you ask us! Also, a cozy hotel nearby the main gondola would be a great option to make sure you’ll be the first one to reach the untouched pow in the morning. Lastly, think about what other activities you would like to do during your holiday. How about some snowmobiling in the woods, husky safaris, paragliding, or relaxing your muscles in a spa after a long day on the mountain? Or maybe you are a culinary expert and wine tasting or fine dining restaurants are more your thing?
What to wear and pack
Do you get cold easily? Or are you unsure what to pack for your holiday or you have limited space in your suitcase? Choosing the right clothing and gear is essential for a successful holiday so let’s go through what you should remember to take with you.
First, you should check the weather forecast for the resort you are heading to. If the temperature is mellow and between 0°C and -5°C a softshell snowboard jacket and snowboard pants with base layers are a great option. But if the temperature is between -5°C and -10°C or dropping even lower you should pack an insulated all-mountain snowboard jacket and pants. To get some extra warmth, you could pack a fleece shirt to throw under your jacket when it gets icy cold. To complete our snowboard outfit, remember to take warm gloves/mittens, a neckwarmer, a helmet, a backpack for snacks, goggles with interchangeable lenses and a beanie and sunglasses for those cozy lunch breaks in the sun.
If you are planning on doing some splitboarding or touring during your vacation, opt for a waterproof and highly breathable shell jacket and pants. These will make your backcountry adventures waaay more pleasant - and don’t forget to pack your avalanche safety kit!
Quick tips - remember these
To get you as prepared and ready as possible for your first snowboard holiday, we have gathered these final tips:
Never stop and sit in the middle of the piste! Move to the side to avoid collisions and accidents and when you are about to start ride again, look around and make sure no one is passing you at high speed.
Start the week by getting to know your gear and how to use it. You’ll look way more professional when you know how to strap your snowboard on correctly!
Don’t hesitate to take snowboard lessons! If you are struggling to stay up and getting started feels scary, a snowboard lesson or two will take your skills and confidence to the next level :)
Pack your backpack with local delicacies and have a picnic in the mountains. Also, an extra pair of gloves and a fleece shirt will save you if the weather gets cold all of a sudden or your hands get wet.
And most importantly: Enjoy! :)
